Area 51

Area 51 or the Groom Lake base is an off limit top secret military facility located about 90 miles north of Las Vegas in the southern Nevada. It is a remote region of land having a large military airbase at its center. Area 51 is one of the most secretive and mysterious places in the world and the all the matters concerned to it are strictly confidential. The primary objective of Area 51 is to support the development and testing of exotic and untried weapon systems and aircrafts.
Area 51 site was selected for testing the U-2 spy plane in the mid 1950s. This remote site was selected as it is quite close to the existing facilities and the presence of dry lake bed allowed landings. It is called Area 51 as it lies in the grid number 51 of the Nevada testing site. Other names by it is known include Paradise Ranch, Dreamland, Home Base, Homey Airport and Watertown Strip. Since being first used, Area 51 had undergone vast expansions catering to the needs of testing some of the most advances weapons and aircrafts in the world. The area is a part of Nellis Military Operations Area. The airspace around it is completely forbidden and is popularly known as The Box. Also an attempt on someone’s part to trespass the area can result in being shot dead. Area 51 is the traditional testing center for all of American black budget aircrafts before they can be publicly acknowledged. The extreme secrecy about Area 51, the very existence of which is hardly acknowledged by the US government, has led to a number of UFO and conspiracy theories about the region. In 1989, physicist Bob Lazar claimed of having worked on advanced alien spacecrafts. Also the regular sighting of mysterious lights has further fuelled these theories.
The subject of Area 51 has always generated interest among people. There is least doubt that some secretive things are being carried out at that place. Even after the declassification of the existence of Area 51 in 1997, the area is off limits to civilians. The secretive nature of the site had made it one of the most mysterious places on earth.
