Harry Potter, a series of seven fantasy novels is one of the most popular work ever been published. It has been written by the British writer Joanne Kathleen Rowling whose life took a complete magical turn and turned from rags to riches after the publication of the first book Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone of the Harry Potter saga.
The idea of Harry Potter suddenly crossed her head in 1990 while she was journeying on a crowded train to London from Manchester. She completed Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone in 1995 and sent the manuscript to prospective agents. After being rejected by eight publishers she finally got an offer from Bloomsbury for £2,500 advance. After the huge success of the first book, she went on to write the remaining six which made her a hugely respected international celebrity.
The last book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows had gone to the shelves only recently on 21st July 2007 and sold more than 11 million copies in the first twenty hours of its release itself. The whole series revolves around the adventurous journey of teenager wizard Harry Potter along with his best buddies, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Jean Granger. The main plot concerns Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort, the darkest wizard of all times who killed Harry’s parents and lost all his powers and body in trying to kill Harry.
Harry Potter series has been translated into many languages in the world and even the movie adaptations of the books are been made which themselves have met with huge commercial success throughout the world. J.K Rowling dedicated seventeen years to writing the Harry Potter Saga and rubbishes all rumors of her writing the eighth book in the series.
Harry Potter books have played a great part in increasing an interest in reading among the youth at a juncture when children had lost all interest in reading and had been completely hooked up to the computer, play stations and television. It has given a new lease to reading among children. J.K Rowling and the Harry Potter books have received many awards throughout the world.
