SPIDER-MAN

The Orgin Of Spiderman

Spider-Man was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko as a Marvel Comics superhero character. He made his first appearance in “Amazing fantasy #15” in August 1962.

Peter Parker is an orphan who is raised by his uncle Ben and aunt May after his parents die in a plane crash. He is exceptionally bright particularly in science. His life changes dramatically when he is accidentally bitten on hand by a radioactive spider during a science exhibition. After this incident life of Peter Parker, then only 15, changes dramatically as he gets the superpowers of enhanced strength and agility, can cling to walls and has sixth-sense (“spider sense”) which warns him of dangers lurking ahead of him.

As Peter is not so well off he decides to use his powers only for himself along with his aunt and uncle. He takes part in professional wrestling to earn some cash. Later a disgruntled Peter allows a burglar to run past him. By some twisted fate the same burglar kills Uncle Ben later. When Peter comes to know about this he is filled with guilt and remembers his Uncles’ saying that “With great powers comes great responsibility”. After this Peter Parker becomes a vigilante battling crime in the city while wearing to hide his identity. To help aunt May with finances Peter takes up a job as a freelance photographer at the “Daily Bugle” selling pictures of himself as Spider-Man by using a specially modified camera that can take pictures of himself. Spider-Man is initially mistrusted and feared by public as “Daily Bugle” portrays Spider-Man as a menace and threat to society.

Recently Spider-Man is shown to have an increased strength and speed than he usually had. Also he develops night vision, biological web-shooters and toxic stingers in 2005 comics. Being a scientific genius comes handy for Peter as he develops artificial web shooters for himself. With their help he can use the web material to swing from tall buildings, can form nets, shields, or can protect himself by forming a spherical or semi-spherical protection.

Peter eventually graduates high school and goes to Empire State University (ESU) on a science scholarship. There he meets Harry Osborn, son of industrialist Norman Osborn and Gwen Stacy. Peter befriends both of them. Norman Osborn turns out to be the Green Goblin. In their battle Spider-Man wins leaving Norman with partial amnesia due to which he forgets all about Goblin and Spider-Man’s secret identity. Later Goblin is killed by his own Goblin Glider during a fight between two and from then on Harry vows revenge on Spider-Man. After losing his first love Gwen Stacy to the Green Goblin he falls in love with Mary Jane and goes on to marry her.

Spider-Man has been regularly coming in Marvel Comics in his red and blue costume to delight his fans. His recent publications are “The Amazing Spider-Man”, “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, “The Sensational Spider-Man”, “Spider-Man Family”, and “New Avengers”.

Sony released “Spider-Man” with Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane in 2001 which created an all time record for the highest earnings in a single day. It was followed by “Spider-Man 2” in 2004 in which Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst again played Spider-Man and Mary Jane. It won Best Visual Effect Oscars and was nominated for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing. “Spider-Man 3” is soon to be released on May 4, 2007 with the same cast for which Super-Man fans are anxiously awaiting.
