The Xbox 360 was released on 22nd November 2005 in Canada and United States. Following it was Europe and Japan. Other countries where Xbox 360 was launched are Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, India, Colombia, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore, Brazil and many more. Officially Xbox 360 was first made public on 12th May 2005, on MTV. In the later part of May, the game information and details about the launch was announced at Electronic Entertainment Expo. As per the details given by , about 18 million units were sold by 22nd February 2008.
The Xbox 360 is the descendant to Xbox and was produced by Microsoft. It was build up in co-operation with ATI, SiS and IBM. Xbox 360 gives a strong competition to Wii and PlayStation 3. Xbox 360 Arcade, Xbox 360 Elite and Xbox 360 Premium are three customary variants in which Xbox 360 is offered.
The formats in which videos are supported by Xbox 360 are MPEG-4, .wmv-videos, .wmv-format, H.264 and WMV videos. The console supports audio playback, performs photos slideshows and display pictures. While using dashboard or playing games one can also enjoy listening to their favorite music. On Xbox 360, the backward compatibility is realized by software emulation or original Xbox.
The games which are emulated are delivered in 1080p, 1080i or 720p HD resolution along with anti-aliasing rather than 480p in a standard Xbox. Previously, Microsoft has affirmed that they aim at bringing more profiles of emulation so that the entire range of Xbox is playable on Xbox 360. Xbox Originals, a latest attribute in the dashboard update in 4th December 2007 allowed original download of Xbox games by the users to their Xbox 360. The games were original and seven games that were accessible from launch are Fusion Frenzy, Halo: Combat Evolved, The Wrath of Cortex, and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge etc.
With Xbox Live Marketplace, the Xbox Live users can download promotional or purchased content. It is a virtual market that offers game demos, game and movie trailers, gamertag images and Xbox Live Arcade games. With its hi-tech feature, Xbox 360 has captured a major portion of the market.
